It's All About Location, Location!

One of the new plants I'm trying to grow this year is called "Mystic Merlin Mallow".  It's suppose to grow to around 4 or 5 feet tall and have pink, purple, and blue flowers all Summer.  This is a picture of what it will look like:

On March 6th I planted two of them in a container and put them at my arbor.  The other one I planted in a flower bed on my patio.  Today I decided the one in the flower bed didn't like it's location at all.  I replanted it in a container and moved it to the arbor as well.  Based on these pictures I took today, I think I made the right decision.  LOL

The plant that wanted a different location!
Height today: 3 1/2 inches
The 2 happy plants - loving their location!
Height today: 12-13 inches

The change in location for the Mystic Mallow has been successful.  It is happily growing.  It was 3 1/2 inches tall (see above photo) on March 29th when it was moved to the arbor. On April 12th it measured 10 inches.

The 2 plants that were already happily growing at the arbor are continuing to grow.  They measured 12-13 inches on March 29th and now measure 25 inches.

White Phlox

I really didn't know if my white phlox would bloom well this first year, but it is really looking pretty.  My goal is for it to hang over the edge of the complete length of the flower box.

Beautiful Tulips

All three varieties of my tulips are in bloom today: Daydream (orange dreamsicle), Yellow Sancerre, and Red Matador.

Ramona Clematis

I planted a Ramona Clematis this week.  We have tried growing a Clematis for several years by a lamppost in our front yard, but it always ends up looking pretty sad.  I am trying a new approach - I planted it in a container so I can move it around the yard until I find the "perfect, happy place" for it.  I also learned that Clematis like to keep their roots cool, so I planted lavender Ice Plants around the base.  LOL

New Redbud Tree

This has been a busy "yard" week for us.  Hubert had the week off.  We had to have 2 Maple trees in our front yard cut down.  Large parts of the trees were dead or too close to the house.  These trees have been here since we bought this property - 20 plus years!  It distresses me to lose a tree.

The good news is that we bought a Redbud tree and Hubert planted it in the front yard.  The Redbud is at least 12 feet tall.  Biggest tree we have ever attempted to plant.  Hope we can keep it alive.

My Tulip Surprise!

I planted 3 different types of tulips: yellow, red, and Daydream.  The Daydream tulip is suppose to have "an orange dreamsicle look".  I posted a photo on March 13th that I said were my yellow Sancerre tulips.  Surprise!! They are really the Daydream tulip.  I can hardly believe the changes that happened in just 3 days.

Getting Started

I've decided to start this blog so I can share photos of my flowers and yard.  I want to show how they look from early Spring through Fall so there will be lots of posts.  One area that I will feature often will be my raised container flowerbeds that Hubert built for me last Fall.  After he built the flower beds, we had the area around it concreted to make a small patio.
